Want Local News to Survive? Subscribe.
Local news isn’t powered by clicks. It’s powered by commitment. And that starts with you.
There are three things we need to do if we want local news — and local storytelling — to survive in Grand Prairie: Subscribe. Share. Contribute.
That’s it. Three simple actions that make the difference between a thriving platform that connects our city, or silence that leaves us guessing and scrolling through half-true Facebook rumors.
Everyone says they want local news. Everyone says they miss when the paper landed on their doorstep. Everyone says they wish they knew more about what’s happening in their own city.
Well, here’s the thing: if you want it, you have to subscribe.
If people don’t subscribe, local news doesn’t survive. And if it doesn’t survive, guess what we get instead? More recycled press releases, more national headlines that barely affect us (but make us continually outraged and divided), and more neighborhood rumors passed around on Facebook like a game of telephone.
Now, maybe you’re thinking: But wait! This is free to read, right?
Yes, it is. And you are! And I’d love for it to stay that way. But here’s the problem: businesses don’t want to pay for advertising on a platform if the readers themselves aren’t in the habit of subscribing. It’s simple — no subscribers, no advertisers. No advertisers, no local news.
That’s why the first step is simple: Subscribe.
But it doesn’t stop there.
If you really believe in the value of local news, don’t just keep it to yourself — share it. Send it to a neighbor, text it to your friend, post it on your Facebook feed, where other Grand Prairie people are. Share it with your GP church, your Rotary group, or your Women’s Club. Better yet, start a show on the platform for your church, Rotary group, or Women’s Club. If that’s your Grand Prairie sphere and that’s what you care about, we’ll make a space for it here on the Faces platform. Because the more people who read, subscribe, and contribute, the stronger this community becomes.
That’s the second step: Share.
And finally, this isn’t the Jenna Pecor platform. Yes, this platform was created by me, for the community. It’s not about my voice — it’s about our voice. I can’t be everywhere, reporting every story, creating every show, not do I know what’s going on everywhere in Grand Prairie - that’s why I need you! Think of the Faces of Grand Prairie like cable, where there are channels, and on those channels are the shows. Real Estate, Dining, History, Alumni, Local Government, and more. Subscribing keeps the cable box running. Sharing makes sure more people tune in. And contributing — whether that’s sending in story ideas, photos, commentary, or your own perspective — is what actually fills the channels with programming.
Yes, this all started as a podcast. But it’s grown way beyond that. Today, Faces of Grand Prairie Media Group is a platform for content — not unlike Netflix, or YouTube — except every channel is about us. It’s content specific to Grand Prairie, about Grand Prairie businesses and locations, for the people who live here.
Because we don’t just need local news — we need cohesion as a city. A shared place where stories, voices, and perspectives come together. And here’s the bonus: if you contribute, you get credit for your work. Everyone’s still chasing their own social media following, but for local marketing, that doesn’t always work. That’s why the Faces exists — so your work, your voice, and your perspective are seen, shared, and valued as part of something bigger than one feed or one page.
That’s the third step: Contribute. And if you’ve got an idea for a story, a show, or a channel, I want to hear it. Email me anytime at facesofgrandprairie@gmail.com — because this platform only works if it reflects the voices of the people who live here.
So if you like reading stories about your city, your neighbors, your schools, your Main Street — if you want to keep seeing stories that nobody else is covering — remember the three calls to action:
