If you’re turning 65 soon (or helping someone who is), understanding Medicare’s enrollment periods can save you money and stress.

1. Initial Enrollment (IEP)
You get a 7-month window — three months before your 65th birthday, the month of, and three after.
This is the best time to choose your coverage because you’re guaranteed approval — no health questions.
If you want a Medigap plan (which covers what Medicare doesn’t), this is when to lock it in.

2. Special Enrollment (SEP)
Life changes? Chronic conditions? Moving to a new area?
Certain situations let you make changes outside the usual window, sometimes more than once a year.

3. Annual Enrollment (AEP)
From October 15 to December 7, everyone on Medicare can review or switch plans.
Even if you’re happy with your coverage, it’s smart to double-check — plans, networks, and drug costs change yearly.

⚠️ Watch for scams: This is peak season for fake calls and misleading ads. Always work with someone local and trusted.

Bottom line: Review your plan every year, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. The right information now can protect your health — and your wallet — later.
