When Grand Prairie native Colin Wright mowed an overgrown lot off I‑30 and Belt Line and painted a massive American flag with his daughter, he wasn’t looking for recognition. He just wanted to take pride in his neighborhood and display his patriotism. But what happened next surprised him — his flag display went viral, attracting media coverage, photos from residents across the city, and a renewed sense of patriotism in our community.
In this new episode of the Faces of Grand Prairie podcast, I talk with Colin about the story behind the flag, his hopes of making it an annual tradition, and what it’s been like to see such a positive response. We also talk about something bigger this moment inspired: the launch of the Grand Prairie: DO Something initiative.
DO Something stands for:
Demonstrate GP Pride.
Own Your Part.
This movement is about everyday actions that add up — mowing an empty lot, picking up litter, attending a council meeting, voting in local elections, or even putting up a flag. It’s about taking pride in our city and encouraging others to do the same.
We’re inviting YOU to join us. This week’s challenge is simple: Find one way to DO something for Grand Prairie. Post about it, tag us, and use #DOSomethingGP so we can celebrate what’s possible when we all pitch in.
📅 Grand Prairie: DO Something is just beginning — stay tuned for monthly challenges and ways to get involved.
